(KGTS) announces its first novel and unique Konkani Tiatr Workshop in the State of Kuwait on Tuesday, 6th February 2007 at 6:30 p.m.

The workshop intends to introduce groups and individuals to the techniques and theory of professional theatre. The workshop offers a solid introduction to the basics of Konkani Tiatr and the fundamental principles, and production & post production techniques of the art highlighting sound design, costume design, dramaturgy, stage management and playwriting.

The workshop will be conducted by one of the most successful playwright, Director, Actor and several awards winner of Konkani Tiatr, most popularly known as the King of Centuries, Roseferns.

The workshop entails in-depth discussion and question session on the salient features of Konkani Tiatr including:
Script writing, Direction, Rehearsals, Stage Setting, Lights, Background music, Cantos, Songs, Back Stage Requirements, Costumes, Make-Up, and Music.
The Conductor will also offer tips to the participants in discovering artistic solutions and developing their artistic skills.

The unique concept of felicitating the yesteryears stars of Konkani stage for their contribution to the Tiatrist Fraternity is what Kuwait-Goa Tiatristanchi Sonvstha (KGTS) stands for.

With the last two mega musical super hit shows in Kuwait, they did it again with the grand success of "OSTAD TIATRIST" - a tribute to Konkani Tiatr and Tiatrist, which was a sellout. Staged at the Hawalli A/C auditorium on 24th February 2006, this much awaited annual event saw the cream of the Konkani lovers among the audience.

At the commencement, one minute silence was observed in respect of the late Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah. Paying their respect to this great leader of Kuwait, the audience with the organizers observed a minute silence. KGTS started the show by playing Kuwait's National Anthem. This was followed by a chit-chat with a flow of yesteryears Tiatrists' songs as well as depiction.

Legendary star Late Anthony Mendes shot to fame with his solo song "Taxi Driver" decades ago, and this time his sons, the Mendes Brothers, Felix-Xavier-Derrick performed it as a Trio. Remembering their father's contribution, Felix Mendes appreciated and thanked the KGTS members for inviting them to perform for their grand musical show. Felix also extended their well wishes and pledged support to new upcoming stars.


Apart from the the Kuwait-based stars who performed, a galaxy of artistes from Bombay and Goa were flown specially for the 3rd Grand Musical show in Kuwait. Joe Rose, Comedian Augustino Temudo and Comedian Domnic Coelho, S.Lemos, Francis de Tuem and Trio Kings of Goa: Joaquim-Junior Rod-Anthony dazzled the audience in their spell binding musical journey of the golden era of Tiatr. The comedy skits interspeared between the songs. Songs from Francis de Tuem on Goa's mining industry was well applauded by the audience so was the Trio Kings songs on the political scenario in Goa. Trio kings are hardcore composers with political and social topics. They are very famous for their bold lyrics and widely expose the flaws of the Goa government through their songs. Their trios "Dr. Verenkar", " M.Boyer" and "Parrikar" were well applauded. Comedian Domnic and Comedian Agostinho's performance kept the audience laughing till the very end.




The appearances of the majority of the KGTS members including Manuel de Santa Cruz, Tony Carr, Clara, Domingos Araujo, Zorro, among others, in different song sequences and scenarios was well choreographed with appropriate light effects and music by a team of youngsters led by well-known musicians Maestro Succorro de Melo.

The main attraction of the show was the leaflets (popularly known as Handbills) of yesteryears Tiatrs that were on display on the left side of the stage, and the right side of the stage was occupied by the musicians. This unique collection dating back to 1950's was provided by Brazinho Soares of Santa Cruz (Goa) to KGTS. The stage set-up suited for the musical show, the decor as well as light effects added charm. The opening song by KGTS President Francis de Verna, KGTS members Junifer Rodrigues, Donald Colaco and Cajetan de Sanvordem highlighted the significance of the title of the musical "Ostad Tiatrist".




Heartthrob of Konkani stage Jose Rod in his song "AMIG" paid rich tributes to "Bab Peter". Jose Rod was felicitated at the hands of Xavier Mendes for his tremendous contribution. With tears of joy, a surprised Jose Rod thanked all his fellow KGTS colleagues and fellow Tiatr lovers for honour bestowed. The compere announced that this was a well guarded secret by the KGTS until the event unfolded. Mario de Majorda was at his best with his hilarious laughing pills along with Comedian Nelson. "Palkacho Divo" a tribute song to one of the senior artistes - Anthony (of Trio Kings fame) by the newly formed trio Katty de Navelim-Simon Gonsalves-Joseph Rodrigues was well composed sung. At this junction, Anthony was escorted on the stage and he congratulated the composer and singers. Such was his liking of the song that Anthony will have it added in his Konkani VCD which will be shortly released in fond rememberance of his Trio singers – Late Conception and Late Nelson.

KGTS which was formed in 2003 and has organized Musical Show in Kuwait for the last 3 years including this year, the proceeds collected is given to Goan Dramatists on Konkani Stage who are often old and forgotten. This is one generous way of telling the senior and retired Dramatists that KGTS together with Konkani Tiatr lovers in Kuwait cares for them and that their contribution is not forgotten by the new generation. Gracy Morais "Cheddum", Joe Rose "Bubli Bubli", "Goenchim Antique Ghoram" and "Jaisi Jaisi", Anthony Carr "Goa", Zorro "Kazar Zatam", Donald Colaco "Upkar", S.Lemos "Rakhno Bhurgo" and "Kiddo ani Mathi", Junior Rod "Kid Boxer", Francis de Tuem "Young Menezes", "Salleli Satari" and "Christanvachim Devmondiram", Katty de Navelim "Ushar Raza" kept the audience spellbound. A song by Francis de Verna-Gracy Morais-Cajetan de Sanvordem titled "KGTS" gave a glimpse of the events from its formation and its three years of achivements for the benefit of the tiatrists. The moral of the song was a strong message for the detractors who try to put up hurdles to destroy the tiatrists' faternity's unity and togetherness. The short play by Gracy and Group was captivating. The roles played by Simon Gonsalves, Joseph Rodrigues, Gracy Morais, Clara and Laurie Miranda were perfectly enacted. The show was compered by Cajetan de Sanvordem. A game of quick five housie was conducted as well as the draw for the annual KGTS raffle.





Working together for the Tiatrist Fraternity and giving some good performance on stage is what KGTS stands for. The audience expected beautiful meanful songs and witty jokes in combination with theme stories. All praise to the KGTS members for putting up such a lovely show and short skits that they people enjoyed. KGTS always comes with some unique performances, and this was evident at the show when the stars of yesteryears were introduced with their memorable songs sung by KGTS members non-stop. As the title of the musical show signified, Konkani stage artistes, singers and musicians are indeed 'Great Artistes' (Ostad Tiatrists) who have kept the flag of the Konkani language high and have brought in significant awareness on the good and bad of the Goan lifestyle and unique cultural heritage. The five beneficiaries for the annual KGTS awards, namely: Ms. Ophelia, Remmie Colaco, Patrick de Verna, Ms. Anita and Ms. Antonette Mendes were announced. Since 2002, Konkani stage lovers have been able to bring joy and smiles through the proceeds collected through presentations and efforts of KGTS to seniormost and retired Konkani stage artistes of the yesteryears, namely: Padmashri Award winner M.Boyer, Philomena Braz, Betty Ferns, Albert Rose, Patrick Dourado, Vitorino Periera, (Late) Mary Vaz, Prem Kumar, Paul Romy,(Late) Rom Tony, Late Rosario Rodrigues, and John Nazareth. KGTS enjoys a large influence and patronage of the Konkani lovers.

To be Goan is to love music. They say, we breathe music, we talk music, we live music, we dine music and the list goes on endlessly. Goa, the land of sun, sea, churches, temples and beaches has been blessed in abundance with a talent for Music, the lifeline and a strong base of folklore, culture and forms of dances. Any reason, any occasion is just good enough to have music, be it a party, feast, death, or just anything. The best source of entertainment is not just skin deep, but the soul of Goans living in Goa and any part of the world.

Goa has produced many praiseworthy and leading musicians including Chris Perry, Remo Fernandes, Braz Gonsalves, Anthony Gonsalves, Sebastian D’Souza, Frank Fernandes, Johnny Baptist, Emiliano Da Cruz and many others who have exhibited their talents worldwide. Some of our musicians have been pacemakers in the Hindi Film industry. Many others have excelled in this field and are mostly sought after for orchestras, Goan bands, parties, etc. Some have contributed manifolds for the Konkani tiatr.

The writers had a rare opportunity to talk with the cream of the naturally-gifted and outstandingly talented musicians of the tiatr fraternity, some locally engaged and a few who have specially flown to be a part of the never ever before KGTS Mega Musical extravaganza, “Tiatr Ani Tiatrist”:

AGNELO DIAS, resident of Fontainhas, Panjim, learned solfegio in the
Immaculate Church School. Originally a violinist, Agnelo was inspired to
switch over to trumpet when he watched Chris Perry in his musical “Novro
Mhozo Denvchar”. He trained under Maestre Santana Cota of Santa Cruz.
Agnelo played his first tiatr in 1974 in Santa Cruz. A recipient of 21 Best
Musician Award from the all Goa Tiatr Competition organized by Kala Academy,
Agnelo journey in the tiatr field has been full of adventures,
experimentations and gratification. He has played more than 2000 tiatrs in
a career span of 25 years and also rendered music to as many as 25
audiocassettes. As a token of his appreciation two years ago, he had a
unique celebration of his 50 years in this world and 25 years of service to
the tiatr world; he felicitated ten leading persona of the Konkani Stage and
literature for their immense contribution in their respective fields. Some
these were Luis Cota, Domingo Caitan, Cesar D’Mello, Ratna Govekar, Diana,
Luis Barbosa, Brazinho Soares.

When asked about the deterioration of brass music and musicians in Goa,
Angelo commented that the techno music can never replace the brass music, he
soul of Latino music we enjoy in Goa. Continuing he stated that “one cannot
be forced into playing brass instruments, this has to come from within. It
is easier to sequence the music, but then you are cheating the people and
also yourself; Also brass instruments cannot be learnt overnight; you need a
lot of perseverance, continuous regime and more importantly minimum 1-2
hours practice session every day”. Talking to him about the pathetic
financial gains which time and again depresses the brass section of Goa and
discourages acutely the budding talent for brass music, Agnelo confided that
this profession earns him approx a lakh and a half rupees annually only on
tiatrs besides the other contracts. He said, dedication and perseverance
are the magic words, which work in any field and so also in the music or
tiatr world. More and more youngsters are lured by the techno music and
sequencing which makes our musicians more of dummies and imitators. Music in
any form is good, but most important is the sincerity in doing any job.”
Perhaps this should show the way and encourage many budding Goan musicians
to embrace this grand brass section of music.

JOSE ANASTASIO FERNANDES, popularly known as Juju, learned music with his
father Roque Jacinto Fernandes, who played violin and piano in the Benaulim
Church. Although now one of the most sought after musician of Goa, Juju
started his work in the music world as a Crooner for the AVC
(Assolna-Velim-Cuncolim) Pops. He took up playing Saxophone in 1970. Little
does anyone know that Juju traveled to Kuwait in 1970 as a part of a Circus
Company and worked with them for 2 and half months in Kuwait. He then
traveled to Iran and worked there for 2 years before traveling back to Goa
in 1972. While in Goa he formed his own band group, Hard rocks with a few
musicians from Goa. His career graph shows landmarks of Hotel Ganpat in
Madras for 1 year, and then another hotel in Kerala for 5 years. Later he
came back to his motherland and regrouped his band Hard Rocks, and
occasionally substituted for Fidelis for some Konkani dramas. The demand for
brass music and dearth of brass musicians in Goa prompted Juju to switch to
tiatrs. Also, the techno music changed the scene of music in Goa and so
also the tastes of Goans who demanded techno music for parties, weddings,
anniversaries, etc. However, this turned into a blessing in disguise for
the tiatr world, Juju and His Boys have taken the tiatrs by a storm; ask the
tiatrists and the audience, they are a witness to his work.

LUIS RODRIGUES, a multi-faceted and multi-talented musician hails from
Ribandar. Luis learned solfegio under the famous Moira priest, Fr. Fremiot
D’ Souza who was a chaplain in Chimbel Chapel during the period 1952-55. A
self-learner of violin from the Tutor books, Luis mastered the art and was a
Church Choir Master for more than 13 years. Simultaneously he self trained
himself under Fred& Pitt tutorials and excelled the art of playing trumpet
within 3 years. A born natural and die-hard for music, Luis works zealously
for his passionate hobby and profession. He played his first tiatr in the
year 1968 in Merces. He along with a few equally gifted musicians formed the
group, Band Azavedo that dominated the Bardez, Tiswadi talukas of Goa for
nearly 15 years. Later, Luis moved to form his own brass band and continued
to offer valuable support to many dramas at the village level and
professional stage. Last 5 years saw him teaming up with another outstanding
and class musician, Luis Cota, the son of eminent Santana Cota who trained
many musicians of the soil. Luis is also a natural stage artist; he has
staged about 8 tiatrs in the village; sung unaccounted number of songs;
composed more than 1000 songs; played for Orchestras of Fr. Bernado Cota,
audiocassettes; and is now in Kuwait to play for the KGTS show. Due to
failing health, Luis has slowed down his pace and taken up playing Alto
Saxophone, but no one can persuade him to give up music. He has told his
children “ I do not mind if I die while playing trumpet; this is my
lifeline, please do not take it away from me”. With this determination and a
lot of music still left in him, one can only wish him luck and best wishes
to continue his tryst with music and his passion of playing trumpet,
saxophone and violin.

SUCCOUR DE MELLO, need no introduction in the Kuwait tiatr fraternity.
Trained under his father, Zezoti De Mello, Succour learned music at home and
then in a School in Bombay. Succour remembers his first public performance
at the Konkani Manddo festival in 1970 organized by Fr. Lobo of St. Rita
School where he played guitar. His first Konkani drama in 1983 was a
children’s drama staged in Canacona. His first full-fledged Konkani drama
was with Clement and Augusto from Quepem/Canacona. And thereafter, he played
for many Konkani dramas and All India Radio (at that time called
“emissoras”). In Kuwait, the first Konkani drama he played for is ‘Kuwaitcho
Mog” staged in the old Indian Arts Circle in Salmiya where he played both
western and traditional music. He had a rare privilege of working with his
mentor, the ever-living legend Chris Perry and played for all his songs in
his cassette “Cu cu ru cu” except for the four songs played by Tony Vaz.
Chris will always remain his favourite. Succour wishes he had more time with
Chris to understanding his intrinsic values, his style and his work.

“A dream project”, as Succour put it, he has meticulously worked for the
KGTS Show sparing no efforts in spinning the best ever melodies, interludes
and accompaniments for most of the songs. Weaving the web of scintillating
music and later training the local musicians has been a major task for this
exceptionally talented person for last many weeks. He hopes that after this
show, more and more Tiatrists, Associations, Clubs in Kuwait will be
encouraged to have such performances at least once a year. Succour feels
very bad about the standard of music in our Konkani dramas, “It is more
synthetic- we are almost forgetting our brass instruments music. I really
wish we would preserve our tradition of using brass instruments like
saxophone, trumpet for our dramas. If we cannot afford to have a full team
we could at least have one brass instrument playing for a drama”. He
continued, “Also it is time now to change our style of music keeping the
taste of traditional music the same but adding more flavour of western and
techno music to it. Experimentation with the traditional Goan music and
with a major input of western music is more appealing to public now. A
proper blend of traditional and western is just what is needed to set the
pace again. Frank Fernandes, Michael Martin, Chris Perry dared to change the
scene and became trendsetters, the legacy now is ours”. Succour has a major
project in pipeline, an audio album of different kind with many top-leading
singers of the Konkni world. Here is KGTS wishing him all the best in his
future endeavours.

TONY, Band Conductor for the Mega Musical, is a Music Teacher in English
Academy School, Kuwait. Tony learnt music under the East India priest, Boney
D’Souza, at the age of 10 and has been playing trumpet and drums ever since.
Originally from Chandor, Tony has spent most of his time with Don Bosco
School, Bombay, Poona and Bangalore. He had a rare privilege of playing in
the Orchestra-Brass Section during the last visit of Pope John Paul II in
Bombay. Tony has participated in many musical presentations during his
college days and also in Bangalore Amateurs Choral Harmony (BACH) annual
presentation in 1991. Blessed with a good voice and equally good singing
capabilities, Tony has sung and acted in the “Prodigal Son” “Joseph and
Technicolor Court” and “Fiddler on the Roof”. Basically a contented man,
Tony just wishes to carry on his profession of passing this valuable art and
form of entertainment to willing and musically inclined pupils.

FAUTINO ALBERT MENEZES, is the Music Master of English Academy School,
Kuwait. Resident of the pristine island of Goa, Divar, Faustino tutored
under Maestro Santana Cota of Santa Cruz. He played Trumpet in his first
show at the age of 12 and became a part of Don Bosco School Boarder Band
shortly. He was also a member of the Goa Symphony Orcehstra, Brass Section
for some time. Due to pathetic monetary returns in this field, Faustino got
discouraged to carry on with Trumpet and started playing guitar for some
beat groups in Goa. He travelled to Kuwait about a year ago and Succor, one
of the leading musicians in Kuwait, encouraged him to switch back to Trumpet
owing to the dearth of brass musician in this State. By now Faustino has
played for a few shows in Kuwait including Kala Mogui Kuwait Singing
Competition, Konkani Mungllurkarancho Ekvott, and Goa Day 2003. Faustino
feels he is still at the nascent stage of playing music for Konkani tiatro.
He is a fan of Chris Perry, he loved his experimentation with music. He
wishes our Konkani songs would transcend from the conventional form to a
much richer contemporary/Broadway musical form. He says there is no dearth
of talent, all we need to do is, experimentation and innovations. Faustino
plays trumpet for the KGTS Mega Musical show “Tiatr ani Tiatrist”

LORNA regales large crowd at KGTS' musical show
"Konkani Machiek Noman" in Kuwait

Kuwait-Goa Tiatristanchi Sonvsta (KGTS) in association with Goan Welfare Society (GWS) held its 2nd mega musical show entiltled "Konknni Machiek Nomann" (A Tribute to the Konkani Stage) at the Gulf English School Auditorium on 4th February 2005.

The show commenced with a short introductory note by Jose Rod, followed by a welcome speech by KGTS Vice President Sylvester Vaz. Fr. Lionel Braganza SBD, Principal of IEAS (Don Bosco) inauguranted the traditional Photo Gallery of Yesteryears Dramatists in fond rememberance of their good work to uphold the image of the Tiatr (Drama) Art. Mrs. Elvira & Mr. Joseph D'Souza were the guests of honour for the show.


The opening theme chorus sung by Junnifer Rod-Cajetan de Sanvordem-Sylvester Vaz was accompanied to the music of Succor De Mello and his ensemble of 14 Kuwait-based young and talented musicians ably supported by Goa's ace trumpeter Agnelo Dias who was specially flown in a week earlier. Jose Rod's prowess in presentation, direction, composition and singing were to the fore as his touch was visible during the presentation. Visiting Goan artistes Comedian Domnic, John D'Silva, Luis Bachan,
Francis de Tuem, together Nelson Colaco, Mario de Majorda, Jose Rod and others provided the humour element which sent the audience into raptures of laughter.

KGTS' beneficiaries this year are the senior retired Konknni stage artistes were announced. Trumpeter Agnelo Dias and actress Sabina were presented plaques. Rich tributes were paid to M.Boyer's contribution to the Konkani stage. M.Boyer is the only tiatrist to have been awarded the coveted Padmashree Award this year.

The late saxophonist Juju was remembered and a one minute silence was observed. His last recorded video footage at KGTS's musical 'Tiatr Ani Tiatrists' was screened.
The show was a success with some innovative presentation concepts, large crowd attendance, direction, singing, and more over being fruitful in attaining the cherished dreams to support the retired stage artistes back home in Goa and Mumbai.

KGTS members, contributors, artistes, musicians and all are to be congratulated for the successful presentation. A large delegation of reporters and press photographers were present.

United Club of Utorda honoured T-Bush, the young creative Goan film producer for his contribution to the tiatr faternity over the years. T-Bush's short English film "The Letter" directed by him and produced by Panico, London (UK) by was also screened during the show which has been awarded the coveted "Inernational European Short Film Student Award" on 1/2/2005.

A colourful souvenir was published to mark the occasion and the highlights of it was the publication of the page showing last years KGTS welfare beneficiaries, namely Prem Kumar, Roam Tony, John Nazareth, Paul Romy and the late Mary Vaz.

The evening's main draw was none other than Goa's nightingale, LORNA. Her rendition of most of the favourite oldies composed by the late Chris Perry with her awesome vocals regaled the audience. Visiting Menino Mario and Meena Leitao sang duets as well as solo numbers. During the course of the show there were solos, duos, trios, quartros and side shows which the Kuwait based artistes as well as the visiting
artistes contributed.

Kuwait-based Konkani playback singer, Adolf, rendered 2-songs from the Konknni film "Bhuierantlo Munis". Adolf also lent his vocals to the Tsunami song together with Jose Rod and Lorna, together with visuals highlighting the disaster. In his message published in the colourful souvenir, Bishop Francis Micalef O.C.D., Vicar Apostolic of Kuwait emphasized "To keep alive and enhance the century old musicial
and theatrical heritage of the Konkani speaking Goan ancestors giving it a deserved recognition in the world of Arts".

Francis Lewis and Patrick Lewis of Fitwell Tailors (Kuwait) sponsored the specially designed costume for the musicians. The objectives of KGTS established in 2002 with a vision to promote Konkani language, tiatr and to provide a platform for dynamic talented Konkani artistes in Kuwait. Presently it is the only association with a largest member base of the tiatr faternity in the region.

Over 175 individual contributors and several Goan associations supported the event and the organizers thanked and appreciated their gratitude and love for the Konkani stage artistes to keep the flag of the 'Tiatrists' flying high. The KGTS membership is open for persons of Goan origin actively involved on the Konkani statge in one or more of the following categories: Actor, singer, director, producer, organizer, script writer, playwright, musician, backstage technician, audio/video technician, sound engineer, lights controller, stage manager, stage setter, etc. For more info, contact KGTS members or email: kgts_10@hotmail.com

An artistic work is a rare opportunity. It's very exciting to watch the development of a musical show right before your eyes. It's a window straight into the creative minds on-stage as performed by Kuwait's best Konkani stage artistes and the finest among the Goan community here, popularly known as "Tiatrists" this week. That was really kind of magical and wonderful in itself as the mega musical show "Tiatr
Ani Tiatrist" unfolded to the audience, organized by Kuwait-Goa Tiatristanchi Sonstha (KGTS) - the largest premiere dramatists association of the Goans in Kuwait
in association with Goan Welfare Society (GWS). This musical extravaganza -an abbreviated but always humorously intended look back at tiatrs and tiatrists
(dramatists) art of the last hundred plus years- in [just over] 4 hours 15 minutes. Showcasing young talents with the versatile professional ones (all members of KGTS) on a high priority with the best combination of vocalists, singers, actors, actresses and musicians to the stage, there were also comedy skits and sketches, and of course, music by the 22 men orchestra. Under the direction of Tony Coutinho,
Faustino (trumpet) and the ever popular Soccor D'Mello (guitar), with Juju (saxophone), Agnelo Dias (trumpet) and Luis Rodrigues (trumpet) – all flown from Goa.
Kuwait-based musicians Ben, Jhovy, Joel (guitar), Denis (bass guitar), Agnelo (drums), Francis, Flaviano, Menino (percussion), Chaminda (octopad), Philip, Shahu, Syham (keyboard), Frederico, Marlinda (piano), Mahadev (flute), David (violin); with digital sound provided by Spiders added to the orchestra's resounding effects. Lighting was used effectively and the stage was utilized to the maximum. Among the
seniormost Goan artistes specially flown in from Goa and Mumbai were illustrious Remmie Colaco, Anthony of Trio Kings fame, together with Jr. Rod, Joe Rose and
Joa quim as well as Peter-Roshan and Comedian Domnic. The show commenced at 3:45 p.m. with the inauguration of the photo gallery of the famous tiatrists of yesteryears in their fond rememberance at the hands of Derrick Mendes (son of late Anthony Mendes).

A brief introduction of KGTS president Francis de Verna followed, who highlighted KGTS founder Marcus Vaz, and thanked all those who contributed towards Rosario Rodigues for his medical expenses. A cheque of Rs. 96,000/-. It would be worth mentioning that this fund was collected from Konkani lovers without organizing a show or a tiatr. The inaugural group song by Junifer Rod, Marcus Vaz, Francis de Verna, and Cajetan de Sanvordem with a chorus by Clifford-Jonathan-Terence, Manuel de Santa Cruz, Jose Rod, Sylvester Vaz, and Domnic Araujo. The re-enactment of the age old carnival 'khell' (street play) titled "Put Mumbai Voita" directed by Junifer
Rod caught the attention of the audience reminiscing the now-extinct carnival tradition of South Goa. The cast included Lucas Deniz, Comedian Nelson, Comedian
Philip, Anthony Carr, Martinho Martins, Mario de Majorda, and Jose Anthony. Seniormost artiste, Remmie Colaco, aged 79 years, from Sanvordem, received a
thunderous applause. In his inimitable style a song entitled "Goenkarponn" was sung by him with the grace and perfection. Laurente Pereira and Gracy Morais were impressive in their 'duet' rendition. This was followed by comedy skit by well known comedians Nelson-Philip-Mario. Ketty de Navelim was his usual best in his solo. Joe Rose's "Preparation-Separation" was well received whereas Cajetan-Marcus-Mario trio's
song on the Almighty's might over mankind. Comedian Domnic and Party has the audience in peels of laughter in their comedy skit. Peter-Roshan's introduction to
the audience for the first time in Kuwait was a welcome change and their duet "Maico-Paico" had a good effect, well worded and rhymed. From Goa, the direct relay of interviews of retired tiatrists, Rom Tony, Master Vaz and M.Boyer was something novice to the tiatr audience. Well done, Augusto Morias! So also was the clipping on Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan, dubbed in Konkani with an interesting theme on
'Sour Ground'. And the crowd just loved it.

The play directed by Jose Rod, with Cajetan de Sanvordem, Gracy Morais, Laurente Pereira, Domnic Araujo was very well done. The trio kings – from the set of 9 artistes specially flown from Goa - Anthony-Jr.Rod-Joaquim reminded of the sacrifices made by "M.K. Gandhi" to live in harmony. "Ami Touristam" by Joe Rose and Peter-Roshan, duo by Slyvester Vaz and Laurente Pereira, and solo by Comedian Domnic winded up the first session of the musical with an innovative idea of combining the same a la "Aiwa" advertisement. It was pleasant to see the third generation youngsters willingness to continue in the tradition for which KGTS and other Konkani-promoting organizations. Kudos to their parents as well as all those who compose songs, train and give the youngsters a helping hand to shine on the Konkani stage. During the break-time, a game of bingo was conducted. Vincent D'Cunha was
declared the winner for the 25" Television set. The second part continued with Mario de Colva and Joe Frank's duo, followed by a duet by Slyvester Vaz and Gracy Morais.

The comedy skit by Domnic and Party took away the strength of laughing more! Remmie
Colaco's "Mai Paichea Khoxt" had a good moral for the youth. Bi-lingual "Love Song" by Jose Rod had the ingredients of his trade mark composition and voice modulation. The video clippings and jokes continued so also the solos by Comedian Philip, Jr. Rod, Roshan, and Joe Rose, in addition to Peter-Roshan's duet titled "Fashion" and the trio kings traditional hallmark of "xupatteo" songs. The houseful audience
could not believe when the concluding "The End" re-run of the "Aiwa" advertisement was shown, as they expected more! The proceeds of the musical show was donated by KGTS to the welfare of the retired artistes namely Rom Tony (Goa), Mary Vaz (Goa) - wife of late Jacinto Vaz, Prem Kumar (Mumbai), Paul Romy (Mumbai) and John Nazareth (Kuwait) as a tribute of love.

Other KGTS members under its fold include Milagres de Benaulim, Santana Afonso, Remy Rebelo, and Zoro. The concluding comedy item – the silent act – was a delight to watch with Comedian Domnic, Mario de Majorda and Comedian Philip.

At a separate dinner hosted in honour of the visiting artistes and musicians , members of the orchestra and families of KGTS members, KGTS felicitated Remmie
Colaco. Mementos were bestowed on the visiting artistes as well as individual gifts presented to all members of the orchestra. T-Bush, the silent supporter of the tiatrist's faternity who specializes in designing audio and CD artwork, publicity leaflets as well as computer generated video clippings, was also felicitated on the occasion.

All said and done, it's not too surprising to note that hundreds of hits
were recorded on the KGTS website after the show
